About This Translation
The Book of Mormon is the account of Jewish families who left Jerusalem before the Babylonian conquest, crossed the ocean, and became the ancestors of ancient American civilizations. Their prophets saw the coming of the Messiah centuries before his birth — and recorded it.
Originally translated into English by Joseph Smith in 1830, this edition brings the text back to Hebrew — the language of the Old Testament prophets, the language these families carried with them from Israel. Reading in Hebrew reconnects the record to its Semitic origins: the wordplay, the poetry, the covenantal weight that runs through every page.

אֲנִי נְפִי, נוֹלַדְתִּי לַהֲבָרִים טוֹבִים; וּלְכֵן לֻמַּדְתִּי בְּכָל לִמּוּדֵי אָבִי; וְרָאִיתִי יָמִים רַבִּים שֶׁל צָרוֹת בְּיָמַי. אַחֲרֵי כֵן שֶׁנִּסּוּ אוֹתִי מְאוֹד, אַבָּא שָׁמַר אוֹתִי, וּבָרָכוֹתָיו רַבּוֹת הֵן לִי. וְיָדַעְתִּי אֱמֶת הַדְּבָרִים הָאֵלֶּה מֵאִשְׁרִי שֶׁלִּי.

The Project
Lehi and his family were Israelites from the tribe of Manasseh. They brought the brass plates — containing the Torah and the writings of the prophets — with them to the New World. Hebrew was their liturgical and literary language. Restoring the text to Hebrew honors that heritage.
